Junior Library Guild

Junior Library Guild founded in 1929, provides collection development services to more than 20,000 school and public libraries throughout North America. This unique service reviews and selects children’s and young adult books prior to their publication. New-release JLG selections are placed into one of 55 levels ranging from Prekindergarten to Young Adult and are then shipped to member libraries on a monthly basis.

The Horn Book Magazine

First published in 1924, the Horn Book Magazine provides its readership with in-depth reviews of the best new books for children and young adults as well as features, articles, and editorials in each issue. The Horn Book Guide provides comprehensive coverage of the world of children’s books. Published twice annually, each issue gives a review and a numerical rating for every hardcover children’s book published in the United States during the previous publishing season.

Randall has been with the Company since 1992 and has been the President since 1998 and CEO since 2007. Under his leadership, Media Source has brought together the most respected brands in the world of children’s and young adult literature review and library media: JLG, SLJ, LJ and THB. Prior to Media Source, Randy was an executive of Pages Book Fair, which sold children’s books to consumers through the school libraries. Randy’s role was strategic and involved a roll up through acquisitions until its eventual sale to a major publisher. He has served on numerous public and private company boards that include the banking, real estate and recognition services award industries. He is a real estate broker in the State of Ohio. Randy graduated from The Ohio State University.

Dave A. Myers

Dave joined Media Source in July 2007, following Riverside’s acquisition in April 2007, and was named CFO in October 2007. Prior to joining Media Source, he spent thirteen years in the software industry, including the role of Treasurer and Controller for a public company, with other long stints in the banking industry and the warehousing distributing/logistics industry. Dave is a CPA, licensed in Ohio, and a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Accounting from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.

Andrew Thorne

Andrew is responsible for brand strategy and coordination of marketing efforts across all Media Source business units. He brings to Media Source considerable marketing and publishing experience with strengths in customer acquisition, direct marketing, marketing analytics and product development. Previous positions include SVP of Marketing for Oakstone Publishing, VP of Marketing at Oxmoor House, and VP, Group Circulation Director for Belvoir Publications. Andrew has an undergraduate degree in Education from Colgate University and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from University of Connecticut. He joined Media Source in February 2008.

Ian has over 18 years in the information/content services profession, and he joined Media Source in April 2010. He became VP, Group Publisher, effective October 1, 2010, and is responsible for identifying and developing new product and business line extensions, leading the Company's evolving professional development and digital strategies, and expanding content opportunities. Prior to joining Media Source, Ian served as VP, Data Services at R.R. Bowker, a division of ProQuest, where he managed the Books in Print data operations, online products and its Online Public Access Catalog enrichment service, Syndetics. In 1996, Ian co-founded eComp, an executive compensation database providing pay data on every US publicly traded company, which was acquired by Aon Corp in 2002. He has a B.A. from The George Washington University and a J.D. from The New York Law School.

Chris is the JLG Sales Director with responsibility for national sales of JLG programs and the sales staff. After developing sales and market expertise by working internationally with academic, public and school libraries for 24 years in sales, marketing, product development and management positions at OCLC, Inc., Chris brought her skills to JLG in 2006. She has a B.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University.

Rebecca T. Miller

Rebecca has 19 years of editorial experience, and was named Editorial Director in 2013. Her deep background in libraries dates to 1998 when she joined the book review staff of the Library Journal. In the intervening years, serving as Executive Editor for LJ and subsequently Editor-in-Chief of School Library Journal, she helped launch several new products, including Criticas magazine and Library By Design, as well as driving the evolution of the content strategy of these two key brands through the development of digital outlets, original research, and the development of virtual and face to face events and professional development initiatives. Prior to joining Media Source, she worked at Utne Reader. She also served on the board of the National Book Critics Circle for six years, two as President. She has a BA from DePauw University and an MSLIS from Pratt Institute.

Gerard S. Nemeth

Gerry is Operations Director at Media Source. Responsibilities include the selection, development and implementation of all tactical and strategic systems in support of business operations including IT initiatives and all Project Management activities, and facilities management. Nemeth directs the magazine production activities for the Library Journal and School Library Journal, and he oversees all post-sales activities for Junior Library Guild including customer service warehousing, processing and shipping operations. He has an undergraduate degree from University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Regis University.

Susan Marston

Susan has worked at the JLG for 23 years. The sixth Editorial Director since the Company’s founding in 1929, Susan is responsible for the title selection of children’s and young adult trade titles each year for the JLG collection development service, with chief considerations including quality, unit price, availability and publication dates. In 2013 alone, JLG selections won 21 awards from the American Library Association, as well numerous other prestigious awards. A former teacher, Susan holds a B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and a MEd from Cabrini College.

Roy has been working in the library market at Library Journal & School Library Journal for 20 years, joining Cahners Publishing in 1994. Over the years, Roy has won various sales achievement awards, including five straight years as a Reed Business President Club winner. Roy became Advertising Director in 2004 and is responsible for all paid advertising within the portfolio of Print, Online & Live Events offered by LJ & SLJ. Roy has created several new content-marketing products that helped the LJ/SLJ brands bring an integrated product line to the marketplace. In addition to managing the sales team, which enables Roy the opportunity to interact with a sizable account base, Roy maintains the largest territory and revenue base within the sales group. Roy has a B.A. from SUNY Oneonta.

Guy joined Media Source in March, 2011, bringing over 20 years’ experience in the publishing industry. Guy is responsible for conceiving, implementing, and managing multi-platform content and audience development strategies for all Library Journals, LLC products and events. Prior to joining Media Source, Guy worked at F+W Media as Director, Programming & Business Development for Digital Book World (DBW), responsible for creating and implementing the strategy, growth and development of the DBW community, including the annual conference, online and in-person educational events and resources, content strategy and community-building initiatives. Guy is also a published poet and journalist, and an avid reader, runner, and gamer.

Roger Sutton has been Editor in Chief at the Horn Book since 1996. Previously the editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian, Roger has an M.A. From the Graduate Library School, University of Chicago. For young people, he is the author of Hearing Us Out: Voices from the Gay and Lesbian Community (an ALA Best Book for Young Adults); and, with Horn Book executive editor Martha V. Parravano, the author of A Family of Readers: The Book Lover's Guide to Children's and Young Adult Literature. Roger has served as a judge for the Newbery, Caldecott, National Book Award and the New York Times Best Illustrated Books and is the recipient of several EDPRESS awards for contributions to School Library Journal and the Horn Book Magazine.
